BUSINESS STRATEGY
How To Turn One Gig Into Five

Turning one gig into many can create recurring revenue and security each month

Hey Runaways,

Jake and I have been placing a lot of our efforts lately to improve on one simple business strategy:

“How can we leverage each gig to turn into 5 more?“

In other words, how do we leverage each opportunity to open doors for more bookings?

In this week’s newsletter, I want to share two strategies that we have found success with:

One on how to build lasting relationships that keep clients referring you again and again,

And another on how to leverage the incredible power of testimonials and client connections.

(Runaway Club subscribers always get 60% off Year One: Wedding Videography where we dive deeper into these strategies)

These are both crucial for turning one wedding into five.

Turn One Wedding Into Five: Build Relationships That Last

5 years ago, we would show up to a wedding, do our job, and leave.

We didn’t bother networking with the photographer, planner, or even the couple.

The world revolved around us, and as a result, we were always fishing for inquiries from brides.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t really work anymore.

So here is the truth:

Every wedding (or gig in general) you film is a chance to create more than just a video—it’s an opportunity to build a lasting relationship with your couple and their network.

The key? Connection.

Q: How can you turn one wedding into multiple bookings?

The answer lies in building genuine relationships and providing an unforgettable experience.

When couples feel connected to you, they’re far more likely to recommend you to friends and family.

And if you have been following us for the past year, you know that even more important than your relationship with the couple is your relationship to the wedding planner

And both of these relationships go deeper than just delivering a great film.

Here’s what we’ve been striving to do at each wedding:

  1. When appropriate, we will capture a photo with each bride and groom we work with, building a personal connection that leaves a lasting impression.

We learned this strategy from Alexander Ma, and we even run ads with just our picture with the couple.

When other couples see this ad, they instantly want that same connection and professionalism with you.

  2. When we deliver each film, we ask each couple for a video of their reaction as they relive each moment before their eyes.

When the emotions are high, and they’re most excited to share their experience, and this is when we ask for a google review.

By having a strong presence on Google, your business name is more likely to pop up in front of more people,

And when you have 10’s or 100’s of 5-star reviews, how can any couple not be interested in hiring you?

  1. We stay connected with them (our planners and couples) through social media, showing that we care about their lives beyond just the wedding day.

  2. We post next-day content. We always attempt to make a same-day, 60-second teaser, but let’s be real, sometimes that isn’t feasible.

In such cases, we aim to try and post SOMETHING.

Our most recent case of this was our luxury wedding in Seattle, where we were back late from the wedding, and traveling the entire next day. Instead of making a post, we made a 15-second Instagram story and tagged all the vendors and they re-shared it like crazy.

Just post something, planners and couples eat this up.

These simple efforts help turn our couples and our planners into advocates for our brand, leading to referrals and future bookings.

Challenge: This week, if you have a wedding, try and establish a great relationship with the planner and the couple. Dress nice, act professional, deliver next-day content, and if appropriate, get a picture with your couple so that you can social-proof your business.

If you are delivering any content, ask if the couple would be willing to record themselves while they watch it so that you can also have some clips of them reacting to their favorite parts of their film. These clips are also great for posting to social media to social-proof your business.

The Power of Testimonials & Social Proof

Nothing builds trust with future clients like seeing real, happy couples talking about their experience working with you. Testimonials, or live reaction videos, are gold.

They show potential clients that you’re not just another videographer—you’re THE videographer.

When future couples read a 5-star review from a past client of yours, they want you as the videographer to give them a 5-star experience.

When future couples see a video of a past client of yours crying while watching the film you made for them, they want you to be the videographer that makes a film to make them cry.

We’ve been leveraging testimonials by sharing them in our social media posts, on our website, and in client proposals.

👉🏼 Action Step: Start showcasing real client feedback. Whether it’s a short written review or a video testimonial, every positive experience you capture builds credibility. If you run ads, then these are perfect pieces of content to start promoting across the web.

When couples see others raving about your work, it builds trust—and trust leads to more bookings.

At Runaway Vows, we are always trying to stay ahead of the curve and experiment with new ideas to keep growing.

By focusing on these strategies—building relationships and leveraging testimonials—you can turn every wedding you film into multiple opportunities for the future.
