Hey Runaways,

Every week, we get asked questions about software.

From which editing software we use to the porject management systems.

In this email, you’re going to get an in-depth look at each software we use—and more importantly—how we use them.

1. Musicbed

Finding the right music is key to setting the tone in wedding films, and Musicbed offers an extensive library of high-quality, emotional tracks. It’s my go-to for licensing music that elevates each video, whether I need cinematic background music or something more intimate.

You can start a 14-day free trial with this link 👉🏼 Musicbed Free Trial

2. Dropbox

Dropbox is our reliable solution for cloud storage and file sharing. We use it to store all of our finished projects for long-term access. Plus, it offers easy file-sharing links, which makes sending large files between our team easier.

3. Vidflow

We have said it before and we will say it again: experience matters. Vidflow is our platform of choice for delivering wedding films. It allows us to present the final product to clients in a beautifully branded, user-friendly format, enhancing the client experience. The Pro plan is perfect for us, and we have spent a good amount of time creating a custom gallery experience for our clients

4. Knotbox

After we deliver the final gallery to the client, we like to send a custom gift to them through Knotbox. What we prefer to do is send the final film on a custom-engraved USB that they can keep forever.

5. Adobe Premiere Pro & DaVinci Resolve

For editing, we rely on Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve. Premiere handles most of our editing needs with its flexibility, but sometimes we turn to DaVinci Resolve for color grading that adds a cinematic finish to each film.

6. Notion

Notion is our all-in-one workspace for organizing ideas, tasks, and timelines. This is basically our second brain. It helps us manage both personal notes and collaborative projects with the Runaway team, keeping everyone on track and ensuring nothing slips through the cracks. We can’t stress enough how important Notion is to us.

7. QuickBooks

To keep finances in check, we use QuickBooks. Although we don’t issue invoices through Quickbooks, we do all our bookkeepinghere, and it helps us stay organized when tax season rolls around.

8. Gmail

All client communications run through Gmail. we organize emails with labels and filters, ensuring that important conversations stay at the top of my inbox.

9. Showit

Showit is the platform that we use to host our site Runaway Vows. It’s very flexible and one of the best drag-and-drop solutions we have been able to find. Adding updates is very simple and straightforward. If you want to use Showit for your site, send us an email back and we will point you to our brand designer!

10. Kajabi

Kajabi powers our online course and coaching programs. It’s a seamless all-in-one platform for hosting, marketing, and managing educational content, making it perfect for filmmakers looking to build an educational revenue stream. Even if you don’t have many followers, we always encourage anyone to start hosting educational content. Kajabi is a great place to go for this!

11. Beehiiv

For managing this newsletter, Beehiiv is the platform of choice. It offers user-friendly tools for building, sending, and analyzing newsletters to help us grow our audience and connect with them consistently.

12. ManyChat

ManyChat helps automate our DM communications on Instagram. With chatbots and automation, this is what we use when we want to announce a big update or product to our online audience. If you have ever seen us post something that says “Comment ‘x’ to get the link”, ManyChat is the software that handles the automated messaging to whoever comments.

13. Canva

Canva is right up there in terms of importance as Notion. We use this almost daily. From designing custom proposals and pricing guides to creating a thumbnail for social media, Canva is the place we go to.

14. ChatGPT

This one is a no-brainer. If you have never tried the paid version of ChatGPT, we can’t recommend it enough. The best $20/month we have ever spent. We spent a day or two teaching it everything about our business, and now we can talk to it like it’s been our assistant for 20 years and knows how to help us handle certain aspects of the business. It helps with captions, social media strategies, ideas for content, keeping track of things that have been mentioned, planning meetings, the list can go on and on forever.

15. Discord

Discord is where we collaborate with team members and fellow creatives when it comes time to host a workshop. It’s perfect for real-time communication, sharing updates, and building communities around shared projects.

16. Honeybook

For client relationship management, Honeybook is the go-to tool. It handles everything from contracts to payments, making it easy to streamline the client onboarding process. It’s especially useful for keeping track of client communication and timelines.

17. Maroo

More and more we have been using Maroo to cover client payments. We got sick of paying credit card processing fees, and Maroo was an incredible investment. The client handles the fees, and sending over invoices is quick and seamless. Oftentimes a wedding planner doesn’t want to by put in a Honeybook workflow and they simply prefer a link to payment. Maroo is our choice for that.

18. Shopify

Shopify is where we sell all our digital products like our LUTs, sound effects, and fonts, Shopify is the platform that keeps everything running. It’s our go-to for e-commerce, offering everything from product listings to secure checkout, allowing us to scale our digital sales effectively. We even know of wedding filmmakers who have built their entire websites on Shopify. If you don’t believe us, check out Russell Kent Nicholls site, it’s one of our all-time favorites!

Final Thoughts:

These tools are the backbone of Runaway Vows, keeping us organized, productive, and focused on delivering the best films and experience for our clients possible. If you’re looking to streamline your own workflow or take your business to the next level, these tools can help you do just that.
