A Lesson From AI To Change Your Perspective 🤖
Go Grandmaster Lee Sedol facing off versus the AI AlphaGo
The game of Go has nearly an infinite amount of possible legal positions.
In fact, the number of positions is larger than the number of atoms in the observable universe 😅
If you thought chess was complex, then the game of Go is nearly incomprehensible
Which is why scientists were considered crazy when they began to work on an AI that could beat all the worlds greatest Grandmaster Go players.
Because surely, no robot could be programmed to master an infinitely complex game,
A game that has been studied and practiced by grandmasters for decades. Often every hour of their lives are dedicated to Go.
But the scientists from London pushed forward, working tirelessly to create an AI to rule them all.
This AI would later be named AlphaGo.
In 2016, after AlphaGo had proven to be a worthy opponent against lower-ranking grandmasters, it challenged the top-dog Lee Sedol.
With one million USD on the line, AlphaGo defeated Lee Sedol 4 out of the 5 matches.
So what’s the point of all this?
Let’s talk about Game 2 of this match.
Throughout the match, commentators could not tell who was winning, although both Lee and the AI system later reported they both knew AlphaGo was in the lead throughout
But something crazy happened on move 37 ♟️
On move 37, Sedol placed AlphaGo in a unique situation that gave it 2 choices.
Would AlphaGo take an offensive strategy, or would it go on defense?
But instead, the AI did something else.
It created a third option.
AlphaGo made a move that both the commentators and Sedol said that “no human would have ever made”
The move seemed crazy, it was not offensive or defensive. It had a 1 in 10,000 chance of being played.
Sedol was taken back, and left the room. He didn’t know how to play against it.
He took 15 minutes to play back.
AlphaGo ended up winning this match, and it was all traced back to the 37th move.
And quite literally, the Go community was forever changed because of this one position.
So here is the question for you…
What is your 37th move?
Whether you are a wedding videogarpher, a graphic artist, or a baker, you are a creative.
Lot’s of times we are placed in binary thinking. It HAS to be this or that.
It HAS to be move one or two.
It HAS to be an offensive or defensive move.
But this is almost never true.
You are the one who can create an option for yourself, and that option might just be the one to set you apart from the rest.
If you are trying to build a business with more clients, what is the thing that you haven’t tried?
And once you scour YouTube and find a new method to try, how can you put your own spin on it to make it uniquely yours?
Stop trying to keep up with The Jones’, and be yourself.
And above all, just remember that you are always just one big move away.
