5 Tips To Film 5-Minute Portraits

Often times, wedding videographers get stressed out if they don’t have adequate time to film a portrait session.

And what we have noticed is that usually means somewhere around 30-60 minutes.

But here is the thing…

As you continue improving your craft and entering new markets, you’re going to notice something.

Couples might only have 10 minutes or less of posed portraits during their wedding day.

And you should see this as a good thing!

Usually that means there is so much other stuff happening at the wedding that they want to be a part of

(And you should be capturing those things btw)

So instead of panicking, or going to a Facebook group to vent about how terrible the situation was,

Reprogram your thinking to know that you can capture all the footage you need in less than 10 minutes

Your film shouldn’t be dependent on a beautiful bridal session.

It should be focused on the hero moments.

The ceremony, the vows, the speeches, the location, the story of it all connecting.

The beautiful portrait session is a luxury to add on top if you’re lucky.

But you can capture everything you need much faster than you think

Next time you are at a wedding, we want to challenge you with one thing…

Pay attention to all the shots you are getting during portraits and ask yourself:

“Is this an intentional shot that I need in my edit? Or am I just filling space?”

Practice this over and over again, and pay attention to what you actually do end up using in your edits, and you’ll soon notice you need less time than you thought to nail the session.
